Funcats was established in 1976 and coincided with the arrival of fibreglass catamarans on the boating scene. Because of the shallow water in the Swan River (average depth 1.5m), catamarans were seen as the perfect craft for the area.
Originally set up to provide a service to schools in the Perth area, the popularity and versatility soon took off with the public. These days it is not uncommon to have the entire fleet booked from 11am-5pm on weekends and holidays. In the evenings Corporate and social sailing and racing are our specialty.
Our safety record and professional approach to beginners and experienced sailors alike has ensured strong support from our sponsors. Rescue craft are always available in case of any incidents such as accidental capsize or simply being unable to return to shore and a simple hand signal will see you safely picked up. As an added precaution staff trained in first aid and equipped with supplies are always close at hand.
